Gave us some of thje challenge that I personally believe was missing from gp2. That said, it would be nice if the devs could work in a graphics mode that even remotely challenges high end machines, i.e revised shadows and super high res textures and landscaping.. Wow!! So much fun. It's "arcadey" like sonic and sega racing or blur....but with the added fun of stunts and managing unpredictable water. VERY playable, and with a really well set up upgrade system. Lots to do in single player, and then multiplayer as an added bonus. Recommended!!. Game is harder then hydrothunder by a long shot, bots are unforgiving.. you mess on turn...you lost the race already... your ride is maxed out it wont matter much, theres no difficulty bar, no real options... stunts are random when preformed, preset for specific jumps... customization is poor and a joke, cheap game made for a quick money grab..... Not very good over all. Too much of a grind feel and not a race feel.. I'm a Riptide GP 2 veteran here, so here are my two cents about this sequelI decided to change my opinion of this game as I put a little bit more hours into it. However, I still mantaining my initial observations about it. The difference is that I would recommend it now instead.The game has all the annoyances of previous titles in the series, without having any of the fun things that made those previous games enjoyable. It's still a game about grinding so that you can buy a bike and upgrade it, but now the bike gets nerfed down when entering races bellow the stage in which you acquired that bike. What the actual f$%k were these people thinking! However, there are plenty of events to keep you ocupied, that will tend to put you on the same tracks over and over again. The color palette on some races is super crappy, so you will find yourself racing in cities where the water is grey, the buildings are grey, the sky is grey, and the obstacles that knock you down from your bike are ALSO grey. There are three difficulties in the game, easy, medium, and hard. Hard is unbeatable, and the other two make you feel unaccomplished, effectively making the game pointless. I don't think I have ever been so angry with a game, and to further exacerbate this, I was (still am) totally hooked with GP2. Riptide GP2, this game's predecessor is a much more simple game, but orders of magnitude more fun to play. I still believe that most of the flaws in this game can be corrected with a simple patch though. So there is hope for this game still. The bikes are the coolest of all of the series, lookwise that is. And some minor story elements have been added to the game, so now you gain riders as well as bikes as you progress, each coming with their own mini story arcs that leads to exclusive races, open only to those riders. This would have been amazing if they would have put a little bit more effort into the monologs of these characters, as well as their stories in general. But the stories are so dumb, and the riders are so poorly writen, that you can't really appreciate any of them. Awesome idea, just poorly executed.The game's still somehow fun to play, although not worth obsessing over with.. There are quite a few unnecessarily negative reviews for this game. From what I've read of these, they're either from followers of the series who don't feel that this game adds much to previous games, other than new tracks, or people who feel that it's too short or arcade-feeling.I feel that these negative comments are a bit unreasonable.First of all, given the cost of the game at full cost, there's a lot of playability and enjoyment to be had from the game. If it doesn't add too much to previous games, then that's just because there's no reason to change something if it's not broken. If you bought a previous game and enjoyed it, you'll probably enjoy this. I personally haven't played a previous Riptide game, but I love how this plays and would definitely buy a future version with new tracks, racers, jetskis etc.Secondly, the complaints about this being too arcade-like are highly confusing. Why would it possibly be a negative if it plays like an arcade game? If you don't like arcade-style racers, then don't get this game. I love that it was so easy to get into but yet has a decent learning curve for improvement, particularly as you learn the tracks and the tricks.Overall, this game is highly enjoyable at full price, but if you can get it reduced (i.e., during a sale or as part of a bundle), then it's an underappreciated gem of a game. It's not a game that will steal your life away or keep you going long into the lonely nights, but if you're expecting it to do that, you really need to learn about how to form realistic live goals.Best advice: play this locally or online with family/friends.. I feel that this game is well done in all aspects except one... the AI is absolutely awful and feels like I'm playing a game from the 90s.It doesn't matter what you do they will always be right behind you ready to overtake the moment you over or understeer a corner. AI is one of the most important things to me when it comes to a racing game so I cannot recommend this.... Good game but it needs more courses.. Overall it's a blast to race through this game.Here's a few things I wish I was told when I started this game:-The "boost start" timing is half a second before the lights turn green. Couldn't get that one down until I was already level 15.-Be sure to double check your graphics settings so they don't get auto-lowered. That being said I have 10 hours in on the lower graphics settings and barely noticed.-The difference between easy and normal is definitely noticeable, but I do recommend playing on normal (the middle difficulty).-There are shortcuts.-Don't be a spaz when trying to trigger the moves/emotes. Especially on a steam controller.The game consists of a couple game modes, 9 AMAZING maps, several vehicles, personal skill upgrades, vehicle upgrades, and a campaign that tweaks the difficulty up as you go through it.I do need to stress that even though they only have 9 maps I never got tired of them, they look amazing even at low graphics setting levels.For the completionists the last few levels consist of all game modes, all maps, and all of the toughest opponents, and by that point of the game it will kinda feel like a slog to get through; At least it was for me. Other than that it's looking pretty easy to go through and get all the achievements.
